CAN-AM Search & Rescue (Canadian-American) was founded in 1976 as a Citizen's Radio Club. Based in Eureka, the founders intended on aiding in communications on search and rescue missions which were, at the time, managed by other organizations. Shortly after founding the organization, a need for a dedicated search and rescue team was recognized and CAN-AM Search & Rescue was born. Today, due to stricter international border regulations, CAN-AM Search & Rescue no longer operates in Canada but still continues to serve the Tobacco Valley and surrounding areas as a non-profit organization.

“You ever hear that one about the Emperor of China and the Artist?” Gareth asks me as we “goop” on another layer of rubber over cut up pieces of his latest life size monument (to be unveiled in early June on Mackinaw Island, Michigan). “So the emperor of China had this hankering for an excellent picture of a rooster. He went to the best artist in all of China and asked him to paint this picture for him. The artist told the emperor to come back in a year.

On Saturday May 23, Eureka is holding its first annual Millions Against Monsanto event. Monsanto is the dominant biotech industrial giant that has been fast and furiously changing our food supply, for the last 20 years, with its introduction of GMO’s. Many would say in a very scary way.
