Montana Book Festival
You might have the wrong idea about a book festival. Maybe 'dull' or 'stuffy' are the first words that come to mind? Images of older women with their glasses dangling from strings or men in tweed jackets? But you might want to put those misconceptions aside until you look over the calendar of events for the upcoming Montana Book Festival. Literary-tinged happenings will be going on all over Missoula from September 10-13.
Valley Visitors
Petr and Martina are two Czechs visiting the Tobacco Valley for their summer vacation. Petr who is 29 and works as a translator and teacher in Brno, Czech Republic, came to Eureka four years ago on a trip with friends. This is Martina's first time to the US. She is a teacher and jewelry maker in Brno, has excellent English skills and is 37 years old. It has been a wonderful time for them to be here as they were able to experience the Down from the Mountain Fest, Shakespeare in the Parks, the county fair and the Bull Thing.
The Bull Thing
The Bull Thing happened in Eureka on Saturday, August 29 starting at 7:00pm at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds (directly after the fair that day). Thousands of spectators bought tickets to watch the professional riders struggle and sway to stay on professional bulls. The event was part of the Touring Pro Division of Professional Bull Riders (PBR). Needless to say...those guys were tough.
Mmmm..A Piece of Pie at the Fair
People go to the Lincoln County Fair for numerous reasons. There are those individuals who enjoy ambling around seeing all the picture perfect vegetables and lovely flowers. There are those who go mainly for the livestock and to get their bid in during the auction. There are some who are content to sit in the shade and visit with friends and neighbors. Of course some are not really interested in the booths and exhibits at all but prefer going to the Bull Thing on Saturday evening. No matter what category you might be in, I suspect that you enjoy at least one piece of pie.
