What makes a good neighbor? Is a neighbor someone who happens to live next door or on the adjoining acres? Is it the person you stop to chat with in the grocery store because your kids go to the same school? And can we say exactly what is the difference between a neighbor and a good neighbor? Neighbors in our community joined together on Thursday, April 30 at the LCHS Commons Area to have that conversation.
Eureka...A Great Place??
Recently I came across the Livability Index which is an instrument developed by the AARP Public Policy Institute to help people compare places in the US based on seven factors such as transportation, opportunities, and affordable housing. Always game for things that require filling in blanks to get an answer, I typed in "Eureka, MT". The Livability Index gives our town 47 points out of 100.
Rendezvous - The West is Still Wild
Eureka is the place to Rendezvous with your family and friends! From the Kick-off extravaganza with great music and food the last Friday in April through that Sunday the town is bustling with fun.
This year kicked off the weekend with a rollicking Friday evening at the Arena. Food Vendors were ready to satisfy your hunger when the doors opened at 6:00. Music started at 6:30 with the rockin' blues of the Mason Stone Band followed by Ben Chappelow. At 8:00 country music singer-songwriter Dylan Scott took the stage.
Saturday began with Breakfast at the Senior Center. Then the parade started at it's usual time of Noon. Upon hearing the sounds of the Bagpipers from Kimberly as they crest the hill of main street – folks ran to stake their place in the crowd. Even rain of some past years can't dampen the spirits of the onlookers who turn out to cheer the floats, costumes, antique cars, Shriners on their very small rigs, and the Coors beer truck.
Spruce-Up the Tobacco Valley Day
This year marked the 20th anniversary of the annual Tobacco Valley clean-up day! Glacier Bank proudly began and annually organizes this workday which is now a community tradition.
Young and old alike, showed their pride for our wonderful home by pitching in to spruce up the town and surrounding areas. This year Glacier Bank blocked off the street north of their building for the trash dumpsters. It's so great when helpers remember to separate their recyclables (plastic and metals) from the trash as Recycle Eureka was once again present with the large bags on loan from Lincoln County to collect recyclables.
Glacier Bank, as always, provided a delicious barbeque lunch on their plaza with all the fixin's from 11:30 - 1:00. Participants of all ages qualified for some great prizes! And, as in past years, a lucky girl and boy won a really cool bicycle!
