FIREWORKS ARE BANNED IN LINCOLN COUNTY, MONTANA
This article was sent to Visit NW Montana by the Lincoln County Commissioner Office.
Due to very high fire danger in Lincoln County, the county commissioners signed an emergency resolution on June 30, 2015 banning the use of fireworks, and any open fires, including campfires, countywide.
The ban went into effect at 12:01 a.m. July 1, 2015. The ban will continue until fire conditions improve.
Continued high temperatures through the week with no expected rain, low fuel moistures and predicted winds later in the week along with the Northwest Montana Region Fire Managers decision to implement Stage 1 fire restrictions prompted the commissioners decision.
The restriction prohibits the ignition of open fires, including fireworks and campfires, in Lincoln County outside the incorporated limits of cities in Lincoln County. However, the City of Libby and the Town of Eureka do not allow fireworks within the city limits, and the Town of Troy severely limits the use of fireworks within the city, by city and town ordinances.
Fireworks are always banned on National Forest lands, State lands and classified forested lands, including privately owned forest land.
Anyone guilty of ignition of fireworks under this resolution may be charged with a misdemeanor and prosecuted. Anyone who causes a wildland fire intentionally or through negligence will be held accountable for damage and suppression costs.
Many other counties and towns have banned or are considering banning fireworks this year, so please check with the local fire department about fireworks if you are going to travel for the holiday.
Please use extra caution when working and recreating outdoors to prevent wildland fire starts and observe the Stage1 Fire Restrictions.
