Description

Louisiana artist Wayne Manns will be in the Eureka area July 10-17 giving a presentation at the Creative Arts Center (7/17 7pm), meeting with local artists and musicians, talking at community gatherings and learning about the culture of northwest Montana. This is a very special opportunity for our community to interact with an artist of Mann's caliber and experience. Wayne Manns (b. 1955) is an African American painter, the son of a jazz musician, nephew of a Harlem Renaissance poet, and the grandson of an hotelier who ran the Ridley Hotel, the only Black hotel in Atlantic City in the early 20th century, which hosted artists, musicians, and cultural icons of color. Manns continues to foster relationships with African Americans who contribute to the artistic fabric of this nation: filmmakers, poets, actors, artists, academics, writers, and photographers. Manns has done presentations in Indiana, Maine, and New Hampshire—states with low populations of African Americans—in order to educate community members about African American art, its multi-faceted nature and historical significance. He has also spent time traveling and doing art in Brazil and Cuba. He currently lives in New Orleans with his wife and their daughter.
