Electronic Waste Drop-off, Now at Eureka's Refuse Site

You can finally recycle those old computers, printers, phones and other electronic devices that you just can't bring yourself to throw away. In Eureka! The county has put a collection box at the “Dump,” also known as the Eureka Refuse Site on Airport Road.

When County Commissioner, Mike Cole, heard that there was an electronic waste (E-waste) collection site at the Libby landfill, he asked, “Why don't we have one in Eureka?” and got right on it. Within the week, on 29 September to be exact, the bin was in place at our “Dump,” and there it waits for your outdated or broken electronic devices. When the bin is full it will be taken to Libby where it's contents will be sorted and the material shipped out to be recycled responsibly. Recycle Eureka is working with Beyond Graphics and Timber Creek Graphics to get a sign up by the collection bin a.s.a.p.

For the past two years we have had two very successful E-waste drives, sponsored by Recycle Eureka and Lincoln County. They worked with Collective Recyclers, a Montana company, which contracted with a processor who is certified in recycling responsibly. The processor guarantees secure removal of all personal information, safe removal and disposal of any toxic materials, and to recycle anything that can be recycled.

Lincoln County now has a contract with Collective Recyclers through the end of 2016 to recycle E-waste with the same high standards. We hope that it will be renegotiated and continue because it is such a boon to our county. Recycling E-waste will extend the life of our landfill and keep a lot of toxic waste from going into it. Since the site opened in Libby this summer two large truckloads of E-waste have been recycled.

Here is what you can bring: TV's, all types of computers with their components, fax machines, microwave ovens, DVD and VCR players, all types of phones & internet connections and their components, digital cameras, stereos, radios, cables and cords, gaming consoles, and computerized lab equipment.

NO: light bulbs, batteries, ink cartridges, or appliances other than microwaves.
