Darris Flanagan is a life-long resident of Northwest Montana, the logging center of Montana. He grew up on a cattle and Christmas tree ranch in the Eureka area where he loved the emptiness of the area, whether hearding cattle, cutting trees, huckleberry picking or hiking in the wilderness. He has always been around loggers, logging and sawmills. He worked in a sawmill to raise money for college and graduated from the University of Montana, where he majored in history. Darris taught school in Fortine, Dayton and Somers and now retired, devotes his time to working on the family ranch as well as doing research and writing. Darris has written three books to date. Indian Trails of the Northern Rockies, Adventures along the Forte Steele Trail, and the latest Skid Trails: Glory Days of Montana Logging.
