Trail Trekking in the Tobacco Valley
The Trail Trekkers are a fit group of outdoor enthusiasts that gather together twice a week to enjoy all the beautiful trails that the Tobacco Valley has to offer. During the winter they might snow shoe and then come early spring they begin with some easy hikes to get everyone back in shape. By mid summer they will be found hiking a lot of vertical feet and perhaps even scrambling over some rocks.
Lead hiker Connie Schreier said that no one should hesitate to join as there are alternatives (such as doing only part of a strenuous hike) and getting some outdoor exercise is definitely better than getting none. On Tuesdays when the group meets, its 'ladies' only but anyone is invited to participate in the Saturday hikes.
On a typical outing, there might be 6-8 hikers although there are closer to thirty on the total list. If you want to get information on upcoming hikes, just send an email to . Once you find out where everyone is meeting up, pack a lunch, fill a water container and put on the right shoes (don't forget that extra pair of socks), you are ready to go.
For most hikes, the group meets at 9:00am and covers 8-9 miles depending on the weather. Perhaps this should be your spring resolution.
About the Author: Rita Collins. I am a believer in the power of community and for now I call the Tobacco Valley home. I have lived in nine states and three counties and this community here amazes me - how people reach out to neighbors and even travelers. I've never lived in a place that demonstrates people caring for each other so well. And I've never lived in a place that has such a high percentage of talented musicians and artists. I work with the the Sunburst Community Service Foundation, a nonprofit that began in Eureka twenty years ago and now serves numerous communities in western Montana. And I just started a new business, St. Rita's Amazing Traveling Bookstore and Textual Apothecary. I never could have imagined life being this exciting in my sixth decade.
